Behold.... The Reason the Deadline Was Extended!

Below is the reason why the deadline for the quote contest had to be extended.

We had to make a trip to pick up a baby.

: )

Look at those eyes!!

She likes to yawn....  : )

Very attentive and alert little girl!
Sorry I had to extend the deadline.  Hope these pictures make up for it.  : )  I'll have more later, but I've been up since 5:15am, and I'm not a morning person, so I'm extremely tired and it is time to go to bed.  However, I'll give you a short story before I go.

We've known about little JellyBean (our nickname for her until we come up with a name) for about a month now.  She wasn't due 'til later this month, but decided to help me from going insane by coming early.  And now, after all we've been through (waiting and waiting and waiting at the hospital - it was annoying and hard!), these pictures alone are well worth the wait!!
Now, if you'll excuse me....  I have a new little sister I need to go hold.

Contest Deadline Extended!

Hey, everybody!

Just posting to tell you guys that the quote contest deadline has been extended until next Friday.  Some of you know why and some of you don't, but you'll all know why I had to extend it within the week.  For now, just know that I'll be busy and unable to do any posting until next Friday at the earliest.

So!  All that to say this:  If you've wanted to do a submission and attempt to guess (I've been told by a number of people that it's hard.... Muahahaha....), you have another week to do so!

Good luck!!

Film Quote Contest!!!

I've decided that it's high time I have a quote contest, complete with a prize.  (Yes, a prize!)

The Setup - I have fifty quotes below, totaling 175 total points - one point per character you guess correctly, and one point for the movie title.  (I also have three TV show quotes.  As a bonus, if you give me the title of the particular episode that this quote comes from, I'll give you an extra point.  There's also a musical quote in there somewhere... because I love musicals....)  There are a few repeats, too - these are not all from different movies.

Rules - There's only one rule: No looking up the answers on Google, IMDb, or any other quote sites.  (Or else... I'll track you down.  I've hunted lions and tigers in Africa, so it will be easy to track you down.  No funny business.)
Bonus Points - If you'd like to get bonus points (because there are no freebies... [aka obvious like "Sink me!"]  Well, some of them should be obvious....), you can post about this contest on your blog and leave a comment below with the link, and I'll add five bonus points to your total score.

Prize - Because it's insanely long (I meant it to be that way because I wanted to test your fortitude... muahahaha...), I've included a prize.  Besides the fact that you'll have bragging rights for life, you get your very own cutout of Rapunzel and Flynn, made by my sister Arwen!

Take your pick - flowers or Tangled Purple?  (The tower is a little disproportionate....  Whatev.)
I will mail the cutout of your choice to you.  (If you don't want to give me your address, we'll figure something else out.  A chapter of my novel, maybe?)

Contest Ending - The contest will end on next Wednesday night, March 13th (unless I tell you otherwise).  I'll post the winner as soon as possible after that.
Leave a comment below with your answers.  (Be sure to include each character's name and the movie it comes from.  If you can't remember something, put a question mark or a blank.)

(Terribly sorry the numbering won't work!!  I've messed with it and tweaked it for about fifteen or twenty minutes and I can't get it to work.  If you could number them on your own, that would be great!)

Have fun!!!

  1. Character 1: It's a piece of cake.
Character 2: You mean it ain't gold?
  1. Character 1: There's a guard.
Character 2: I'll go snap his neck.
  1. Character: Beauty knows no pain, girls!
  1. Character: The whole purpose of places like Starbucks is for people with no decision-making ability whatsoever to make six decisions just to buy one cup of coffee. Short, tall, light, dark, caf, decaf, low-fat, non-fat, etc. So people who don't know what they're doing or who on earth they are can, for only $2.95, get not just a cup of coffee but an absolutely defining sense of self: Tall. Decaf. Cappuccino.
  1. Character: I'm an astronomer, not a doctor! I mean, I am a doctor, but I'm not that kind of doctor. I have a doctorate, it's not the same thing. You can't help people with a doctorate. You just sit there and you're useless!
  1. Character: Sir, please dismount the banister.
  1. Character 1: I can't do this, [Character 2].
Character 2: I know. It's all wrong. By rights we shouldn't even be here. But we are. It's like in the great stories, [Character 1]. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger, they were. And sometimes you didn't want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it's only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something, even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, [Character 1], I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn't. They kept going. Because they were holding on to something.
Character 1: What are we holding onto, [Character 2]?
Character 2: That there's some good in this world, [Character 1]... and it's worth
    fighting for!
  1. Character: Our evil plan is working.
  1. Character: You may kill me, but you'll never destroy the ideals of Camelot!
  1. Character: I cannot be contained... in any container!
  1. Character: Your nose, sir.... Your nose is rather large.
  1. Character: My tremendous, intuitive sense of the female creature informs me that you are... troubled.
  1. Character: What is that? What're you doing? What is that? What're you doing? That caviar is a garnish.
  1. Character 1: Do you not know that in the service... one must always choose the lesser of two weevils?
Character 2: He who would pun would pick a pocket.
  1. Character 1: You know, I honestly wish there was something between us...
    Character 2: What?
    Character 1: A continent.
  1. Character 1: All right. Here's the plan. In the dead of night, you and I grab some provisions, hijack one of those... one of those longboats... and then, we... row back to Spain like there's no mañana!
Character 2: [pauses] Back to Spain, yeah?
    Character 1: Yeah.
Character 2: [uncertainly] In... a rowboat.
    Character 1: Yeah!
Character 2: [sarcastically] Great. Sensational. That's your plan, is it?
Character 1: That's... pretty much it, yeah.
Character 2: [delighted] Well, I like it! So, how do we get on deck?
Character 1: [pauses, deep breath] In the dead of night, you and I grab some provisions, hijack one of those... longboats...
  1. Character: He died?! And this is supposed to be a kids' movie!
  1. Character: Bonjour, mesdames et monsiuers. Yesterday we have learned the correct way how to boil water. Today we will learn the correct way how to crack an egg. Voilà! An egg. Now, an egg is not a stone; it is not made of wood, it is a living thing. It has a heart. So when we crack it, we must not torment it. We must be merciful and execute it quickly, like with the guillotine.
  1. Character: Before the Civil War, the states were all separate. People used to say "United States are." Wasn't until the war ended, people started saying "The United States is." Under Lincoln, we became one nation.
  1. Character 1: I want always to be a boy, and have fun.
Character 2: You say so, but I think it is your biggest pretend.
  1. Character: I'd imagine the whole world was one big machine. Machines never come with any extra parts, you know. They always come with the exact amount they need. So I figured, if the entire world was one big machine, I couldn't be an extra part. I had to be here for some reason. And that means you have to be here for some reason, too.
  1. Character: She makes coffee nervous.
  1. Character: It hasn't happened yet, you fool, and don't you dare tell anyone!
  1. Character 1: I hate Pa - pa - Pastahazootie, or whatever the name of this town is.
    Character 2: Quaddy.
Character 1: Yeah. I don't want to cure anybody here. They all deserve to have whatever they have.
  1. Character 1: She is to tell us stories! She is-....
    Character 2: Dead.
    Character 3: Tragic.
Character 4: Awful. Good shot, though.
  1. Character: No matter how loud you shout, you will not drown out the voice of the people!
  1. Character: There's only one God, ma'am.
  1. Character: What would you have me do? Seek for the patronage of some great man and like a creeping vine on a tall tree, crawl upward where I cannot stand alone? No, thank you! Be a buffoon in the vile hope of teasing out a smile on some cold face? No, thank you! Eat a toad for breakfast each morning? Make my knees callous? Cultivate a supple spine? Wear out my belly groveling in the dust? No, thank you! With my left hand, scratch the back of any swine that roots up gold for me, while my right, too proud to know his partner's business, takes in the fee? No, thank you! Shall I use the fire God gave me to burn incense all day long? No, thank you! Struggle to insinuate my name into the columns of the Gazette? Calculate, scheme, be afraid? Love more to make a visit than a poem? Seek introductions, favors, influences? No, thank you! No, I thank you and again, I thank you!
  1. Character 1: [Character 2]? Yeah, he was here, but he put an egg in his shoe and beat it.
  1. Character 1: You will marry Gabriella by the next full moon or I will strike at you in any way I can.
Character 2: What's it to be, Father – hot oil or the rack?
Character 1: (flustered) I will simply deny you the crown and...live forever!
Character 2: Good. Because I don't want it.
  1. Character: I love... I love... I love you.
  1. Character: I love the way your eyes light up when you go crazy.
  1. Character: I enjoyed myself. Love your stalag. Very nice barbed wire. I like barbed wire. Makes me feel very warm – very sentimental inside.
  1. Character: I don't like green food.
  1. Character: I love the way your foul little mind works!
  1. Character 1: Let me make this as... monosyllabic as possible. I... don't much care for this crew you hired. They're... how did I describe them, [Character 2]? I said something rather good this morning before coffee.
Character 2: 'A ludicrous parcel of driveling galoots,' ma'am.
Character 1: There you go. Poetry.
  1. Character: Twisted every way, what answer can I give?
  1. Character: Would you have me challenge the countess to a duel?
  1. Character: A diversion!
  1. Character: Have this man courtmarshalled and sent to the Russian front. And believe me – I can do that.
  1. Character 1: The man out of time!
Character 2: I'm not the one that's out of time.
  1. Character: I can't believe it. I'm losing to a rug.
  1. Character: That... is a very good... tree.
  1. Character1: Do you really think there is only one perfect mate?
Character 2: As a matter of fact, I do.
Character 1: Well then how can you be certain to find them? And if you do find them, are they really the one for you or do you only think they are? And what happens if the person you're supposed to be with never appears, or, or she does, but you're too distracted to notice?
Character 2: You learn to pay attention.
Character 1: Then let's say God puts two people on Earth and they are lucky enough to find one another. But one of them gets hit by lightning. Well then what? Is that it? Or, perchance, you meet someone new and marry all over again. Is that the lady you're supposed to be with or was it the first? And if so, when the two of them were walking side by side were they both the one for you and you just happened to meet the first one first or, was the second one supposed to be first? And is everything just chance or are some things meant to be?
  1. Character: My head is starting to get fuzzy.... Why did you come, again? I forget.
  1. Character: Do you still tell the time, clock friend? I can't tell by the expression on your face....
  1. Character: Is the Popemobile Catholic?
  1. Character: The salted pork is especially good.
  1. Character: May a dead man say a few words to you, general, for your enlightenment? You will never rule the world... because you are doomed. All of you who demoralized and corrupted a nation are doomed. Tonight you will take the first step along a dark road from which there is no turning back. You will have to go on and on, from one madness to another, leaving behind you a wilderness of misery and hatred. And still, you will have to go on... because you will find no horizon... see no dawn... until at last you are lost and destroyed. You are doomed, captain of murderers. And one day, sooner or later, you will remember my words...
  1. Character: It's so overt... it's covert.
Good luck!!

Something is Coming....

A contest, actually....  : )  To be posted soon!

Meanwhile... enjoy a random Lord of the Rings video that someone showed me the other day.  I'm not sure whether to laugh or sue.

See what I mean?

And, while we're on the subject of random videos, check this one out.  I'm always up for making fun of Star Wars!!  (Though I've seen all of them enough to know that Jedis don't do mindmelds.  Period.  Somebody needs to do a huge Star Wars/Star Trek viewing on the lawn at the White House.  Heehee....)

Heehee....  Somebody had waaaaay too much time on their hands.

The Saddest News of the Day....

It has just been announced via press release that the third movie in the Hobbit trilogy, "The Hobbit: There and Back Again," has been moved to a December 17, 2014 release date.  Originally planned as a summer film, the move now mirrors the three Peter Jackson directed Hobbit films with is also-directed "Lord of the Rings" film trilogy.  The second movie, "The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug," is scheduled for a Dec. 13 release this year.
The shift makes the release consistent with the pre-holiday releases of the previous films pitting it in competition with two family friendly films, one a spinoff of "Despicable Me," and the other from Pixar's Brad Bird titled "Tomorrowland."
The bulk of all three films has already been shot with planned "pick ups" set for May which are expected to last for several weeks or even months. The first film, "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey," has grossed nearly $1 billion world wide at the box office and $300 million in the U.S. The three movies are based on the book "The Hobbit," by J.R.R. Tolkien, released 75 years ago.
Found here on The One Ring.
No, I didn't cry....  I just sighed.

A Night To Remember

A few months ago, my sister came up with the brilliant, yet crazy, idea to host a Valentine's Banquet for the couples at our church. I won't bore you with the details of the chaos beforehand and just fast-forward to the night of the banquet. Thankfully, it went well, but I know we were all more than happy to achieve our original and main goal – to bless our parents and the couples at our church who invest so much into our lives.

It was decided early on that I would be the official photographer, which made me both excited and nervous at the same time.  So, without further ado, the best pictures from the night of, accompanied by commentary from yours truly. : ) (And, hey – seventeen out of three hundred and forty-six isn't bad, if I do say so myself.)
The dining hall.  Absolutely beautiful in the candlelight!
The salad was literally thrown together, minutes before the couples came in.  Does it look thrown together?  No?  High fives to all who helped!
We had a hostess desk for Arwen to stand behind (because she was the hostess), sign people in, and get their orders.  "Would you like your pasta with marinara or alfredo sauce?  And would you like that to be gluten-free or not?"
(I was in charge of all the gluten-free stuff.  Good news!  I didn't get stressed out 'til the night before!)

Dessert!
Getting ready for The (Not So) Newlyweds Game
The women went first, writing down their answers to the questions asked of them.
Then the men came in.
"Don't worry - I still love you even if I get an answer wrong!"

Some answers completely confused the men!
Thank goodness there weren't many hard feelings!
"How could you not have gotten that one right?"

"Oh."

Afterwards was dancing, which went on late into the night and mixed with the clean-up.
Hope you all liked the pictures!  If you attended the banquet and would like prints of the pictures you see here or others, just email me or leave a comment below!  Prints of the individual couples pictures are being ordered as soon as I get the time.  : )

Lastly, for all of us single people, who will be celebrating Single Awareness Day (S.A.D.) this year....

Happy Valentine's Day, y'all.

Protect Us, Lord, From Being Writers Such As These

Really?  Really?!

Never fear, writers suffering from the accursed Writer's Block.  You are nothing compared to this.

Take heart.

This guy is *right* on!!

This video isn't about how to get guys to like you - it's about how to get the right guy to like you.  There's a difference.  And Jordan is right on when he explains it!

Listen well, sister!
(And no, that was not a way of tweaking Thor's idiotic line from The Avengers.)

What do you think?  Do you agree with him?

Let the comment war begin!

i love tags... muchly

Bella of To Say Nothing of Reality tagged me! *fistpump*

So, instead of the (rather boring) post that I was planning on doing today, I'll just reply to her tag. : )

1) Will you watch black-and-white movies?

Oh, yes. They're amazing! Sure, I prefer movies in color, but I think that a lot of the better movies (with better morals, actors, stories, etc) are in black-and-white – Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, You Can't Take it With You, It's a Wonderful Life, Cyrano de Bergerac. (If you haven't already, go watch all of those. Post haste.)

2) If you could choose between Middle Earth and Narnia where would you go?

Dare I even try to choose?! *sigh* Fine.

Let's see.... I think it would depend on when. If Faramir were still alive, then I'd go to Middle Earth. He's the only reason I watch Lord of the Rings now. XD

And it depends on who's in Narnia – all of the Pevensies? Or Eustace and Jill? Or Diggory and Polly? Or Shasta and Aravis? Or somewhere in between? You have to keep all those factors in mind!

In the end, though, I think I'd choose Narnia, partially because I'd love to just walk around and stumble upon places in the books – Cair Paravel, anyone?! – and partially because I'd love to meet people and see all of the creatures with my own eyes. That would be amazing.

3) What is one place you'd like to visit?(or revisit as the case may be)

SCOTLAND!!!!! (This is a visit, not a revisit.) My revisit place would be Washington, D.C. There was way too much to see in only ten days, and it was even harder to process when I was eleven! Or Disney. (Yes, I'm eighteen and want to go to Disney. Your point is?)

4) You discover a dragons egg under your bed. What is the first thing you do?

Shriek hysterically. Then claim it as my own and have an internal debate as to what to name it when it hatched. Probably Ciara, after Aaron's dragon. (From Aaron's Journey, that novel I keep telling you guys about. Toying with the idea of rewriting it... for the third time.)

5) How would you describe a hero?

Percy and Knightley and Alf all rolled into one. : ) Seriously, though, a hero is someone who is sacrificial – someone who puts others' needs above his own. Someone who will do anything necessary to achieve his goal. (And, in doing so, not only rescues the princess, but wins her heart as well.)

6) Do you like acting and if so, would you take an acting class with me?

Ooh, yes, please!! There was a time when I dreamed about acting, but now I'm only thinking about writing screenplays. Methinks an acting class would help my writing.

*takes freshly baked, gluten-free (and still delicious!) peanut butter cookie break*

7) What is your favorite type of book?

A good one. Lots of action, suspense, and mystery, a very creepy bad guy, an awesome hero, and a girl. So that there can be a hint of romance. : ) If you don't believe that all this can be put into one book, go pick up something by Wayne Thomas Batson. Remember that name – WTB, author of awesomeness known as The Door Within Trilogy, The “Isle” Books (Isle of Swords and Isle of Fire), The Berinfell Prophecies, and The Dark Sea Annals. All are good and highly recommended to all who read this post!!!

8)Do you carry/own a sonic screwdriver?

Sadly, no. But I know a few guys who do.... : )

9) Would you run away with Peter Pan?

Maybe... if only to see if I can kill Hook all by me onesies. (Savvy?)

10) Do you like the old, legend-like fairy tales?

Eh... not really. I like Disney fairy tales, though!

11) What is the craziest thing you've ever done?

Written fifty thousand words of my novel in one month. That was insane – and I absolutely mean it. I don't think I'll be able to do it again (until June, that is).

Ask me again in about two months and I'll tell you, “Edit my novel.”

Thank you so much for tagging me, Bella! That was so much fun!!

To be on the weird side (or just be me), I'm going to tag all of my readers without blogs. That means Haley and Elinor and anyone else who wants to! Below are your questions. Leave your answers in the comment section. Can't wait to read them!

  1. Have you ever done something so crazy that you know you'll never do it again?
  2. Who is your favorite literary hero/heroine?
  3. Have you ever read a book by Wayne Thomas Batson???
  4. What is your favorite kind of cookie?
  5. Do you think that Loki is evil, or just cute?
  6. Have you ever been so “into” something (such as a hobby or book or movie) that it scares your family, especially parents? Do tell!
  7. Do you agree with me that War Horse seemed a lot like Black Beauty?
  8. Which do you like more – folding laundry or washing dishes?
  9. What is your most-accessed video (or channel or playlist) on YouTube?
  10. When was the last time you memorized a Bible verse and what was it?

I'm Confuzzled....

Why is John Boy Walton in World War II?  And near Germany?!
If you've seen more episodes of The Waltons than I have, please comment below and tell me why on earth he's doing that instead of writing.  Please.

My Writing Life ~ In Pictures

Behold.  Dylan Bronson, one of my awesome-est secondary characters, evah.  To date.
(Of course, I've never dated him, but I wouldn't mind it that much....)
(This is Michael Bolton, by the way...)

I've been watching videos of Meryl Davis and Charlie White like mad for research lately... and enjoying it muchly.  : )  This Bollywood-inspired program got them first place in the Free Dance competition at the Olympics in 2010 and it's probably my favorite!

Check it out!
I love the fact that even though I can't ice dance doesn't mean I can't let my characters have fun doing it!!

Yes, my characters do this.  Pretty sure it's called a Death Spiral.  (Heehee... look at Charlie's face!)
I've also been reading up on ice dancing again so that I can polish their programs, so I was more than happy to find this, which describes how Meryl and Charlie perform this awesome straight-line lift.  If you want to see it in action, go here.  (Another favorite free dance - I've watched it a dozen times this week!)
I've put this novel on hold slightly and can only work on it when I'm done with my schoolwork each day, but hopefully I'll have the editing done and sent off to a few proof readers soon!  Huzzah!  And here's some more news for you guys - I think I might actually have a title nailed down!!  How cool is that?

I've also been working on my OYAN novel, which is going pretty well!  It's a 19th century 'pirate' novel, including lost treasure, evil captains, and a neat set of characters.  I've been thinking of putting some snippets up - would you guys like that?

~Eowyn~

PS: The reason why I haven't been posting lately is because I thought that since Tolkien was such an awesome guy, he needs to have a pretty long birthday celebration.  (Kidding, Schultz....)  My life has been pretty crazy lately, as some of you probably know, so yeah.  Hoping to do some more posting in the near future!!  : )

January 3, 2013

Happy 121st Birthday, J.R.R. Tolkien!

Without you, we wouldn't know what hobbits are.

Without you, we'd have no reason to spontaneously shout, "Get off the road!"

Without you, we'd think that gold rings were normal.

Without you, there'd be no reason to dress up and watch extended editions of movies with friends.

Without you, we wouldn't sound cool when we say like Captain Obvious, "A diversion."

Without you, we would have no good standards for great literature.

Without you, I know I'd be without one of my top favorite movie heroes.  (FARAMIR!!!)

Without you, I wouldn't be interested in literature at all.

Without you, I wouldn't have a reason to have a cake made house in a hill.

Without you, well... I would be completely fangirlish over The Scarlet Pimpernel.
(It's good to have balance in my passions.)

Thank you.

January 2, 2013

forget a new year's post - this is FRILLIONS of times more exciting!

I FINISHED MY NOVEL!!!!!

Here are my stats, if you care.
  • 132 pages
  • 79,984 words, 7,397 of which were done between today and yesterday (Just shy of 80k!)
  • 18 chapters
  • 435,319 characters (Letters and semicolons and what have you - not humans.)
  • 174 KB of memory
All of which, sadly, needs to be insanely edited.  Just imagine, though!  It only took me two-thirds of a 9 oz bag of Mint M&Ms, which means that I have the rest of that bag, plus my 30 oz bag I got on clearance the other day, specifically reserved for editing.  There's a light at the end of this tunnel.  (Unfortunately, I think I'll need another package of Meadow Mint Hobbit Tea before long....  Oh, well.)

I thought I'd show you my reaction in pictures.  : )

New Year's Eve came and went and I woke up on New Year's Day feeling like this....

"I'm not done with my novel yet and it's 2013.  I am angry."

Then, I started writing.  And writing and writing and writing.  Pretty soon, I felt like a combination of Arthur Clenam and Amy Dorrit in the picture below.
Frustration and exhaustion.  Not much sadness until late last night when I realized that I was leaving Alec and Nikki.  (Not for long, mind you.  More later.)
Then, I finally finished it and felt like this.
Minus the really evil feeling, that is.
Then, I felt like dancing.
With some keys.  : )
Now, I just feel like this.
"Whaaaa?"
I also thought you'd be a little remotely interested in some pictures I put together for my two main characters, Nikki and Alec.

Nikki's personality is a mix of Amy Dorrit, Rapunzel, Christine Daae, Margaret Hale, Marguerite St. Just, and Mary Smith.  She kind of looks like all of them combined, but I haven't nailed down an actress yet.

Alec is like all of these guys.  The actor in the middle is Jonathan Rhys Meyers (Louis Connelly, August Rush).  I was watching a clip from August Rush the other day when it just hit me.  I couldn't stop bouncing up and down when I saw the picture on the bottom right.  Especially in the middle picture, taken from a movie he played in a few years ago.
He's Alec.  : )

Well, I need to go find some food.  I've been eating M&Ms and drinking water out of my souvenir cup from The Hobbit all day and feel in need of some sunflower seeds.

Allons-y!!
